To mark the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of Medicare in Quebec, our sister organization, la Coalition solidarité santé, has issued 2 You Tube videos (see below). They have been produced with the goal of mobilizing the population against the rising tide of two-tier, private for-profit health services. Please circulate to your members and put a link on your organization’s web site.

Holding his grandfather’s hand

Holding his grandfather’s hand

“I have waited a long time to hold my grandpa’s hand again”, said Kiefer Sutherland

Actor Kiefer Sutherland stands next to the newly-unveiled bronze statue of his grandfather, Tommy Douglas, and holds his hand. A huge audience encircled the area completely for the unveiling, and a large contingent of media was present for the ceremonies. The sun came out at about the time Sutherland stood by the statue, causing the actor to exclaim at the timing; he later spoke at the packed-out Legion Hall, and shared stories that he heard from his grandfather about the “mystical” place called Weyburn. His visit on Friday was his first-ever trip to the city, and he said he wants to return with his daughters and grandson to show them this statue.
