Media Advisory: Health professionals and advocates call for health care based on need, not ability to pay
Saskatoon, SK – Health care professionals and public health advocates urge Premier Wall to reverse a plan that will violate the Canada Health Act, and call on Minister Philpott to impose penalties if it is implemented.
WHAT: Media Conference
WHEN: 10am, Wednesday, March 23rd
WHERE: Meeting Room – Mel Langer Building 424 1st Avenue North Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (enter through 1st Avenue entrance or back door between 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue)
WHO: Dr. Ryan Meili, Vice-Chair, Canadian Doctors for Medicare; Adrienne Silnicki, National Coordinator, Canadian Health Coalition; and available by phone (due to weather conditions) Tracy Zambory, President, Saskatchewan Union of Nurses
Why: Premier Wall has stated that if re-elected his party will create a second-tier in health care for both MRI and CT scans. This will allow affluent patients to jump the queue, however, it will not solve the problems of wait times.
